Notes for Leaders
It is ESSENTIAL to know the route of the walk and to have checked, as near to the date of the walk as possible, for any problems that may have arisen.
- Try to keep the group together at all times by walking at the front at an appropriate pace and by appointing a back marker and who, if possible, knows the route.
- Give details of the walk including the terrain, length and pace of the walk before setting off so that members can decide whether the walk is suitable for them.
- Introduce new walkers to the group and check if they have a medical condition you need to be aware of.
- Please note that Access Land may be closed Monday to Saturday but early notice is not generally available now. It may be possible to check with Peak District rangers or the Bakewell office a day or two before or try www.gov.uk/right-of-way-open-access-land/use-your-right-to-roam
- Derwent, Bamford and Hallam Moors will be closed at nesting time. This does not affect Rights of way and the concessionary path along the top of Stanage is usually kept open
- If unable to lead the walk, appoint a substitute leader. If this is not possible please notify the Rambles Committee (email:
